AI VISIBILITY MEASUREMENT

The best AI visibility tools for measuring what AI actually says

Measurement quality depends on the observed surface, repeatability and audit trail—not a single percentage.

01 / METRIC DICTIONARY

What AI visibility actually measures.

These measures answer different questions. Keeping them separate makes the result easier to audit and less likely to overstate.

Mention rate
Formula or definitionEligible observations where a brand is named
What it does not meanIt does not mean the brand was recommended.
Recommendation rate
Formula or definitionEligible observations where a brand is recommended
What it does not meanIt does not mean a visitor clicked.
Share of voice
Formula or definitionBrand presence relative to the measured set
What it does not meanIt does not mean market share.
Citation rate
Formula or definitionObservations with captured citations
What it does not meanIt does not prove a citation caused an answer.
Citation-domain coverage
Formula or definitionDistinct cited domains across the set
What it does not meanIt does not prove source quality.
Answer context
Formula or definitionThe surrounding framing in a saved answer
What it does not meanIt does not turn sentiment into a purchase intent.

02 / REPRESENTATION

The measurement problem nobody should hide.

Answers can vary with nondeterminism, the surface a buyer sees, localization, logged-in versus non-logged-in experience, prompt wording and sampling frequency. Public vendor methodologies and independent comparisons can frame those limits; they do not remove them.

A dashboard is more useful when the raw observation remains inspectable: prompt, engine, time, answer, citations and the rule used to classify each event.

One buyer prompt“Which tool fits this job?”
  1. Engine A
    Run 01
  2. Engine A
    Run 02
  3. Engine B
    Run 01
  4. Engine B
    Run 02

One answer is an observation. Repeated observations describe a set.

03 / BUYER CHECKLIST

Twelve questions for any measurement tool.

04 / PLATFORM-BY-PLATFORM FIT

Compare measurement dimensions—not a broad feature checklist.

Profound

Measurement fit: Answer-engine measurement and intelligence

See its primary Answer Engine Insights materials for supported methodology and data details.

Peec

Measurement fit: Recurring AI-search analytics

See Peec’s primary product facts for its stated measurement workflow.

Otterly

Measurement fit: Accessible monitoring

See Otterly’s plans and pricing for the current scope.

Scrunch

Measurement fit: AI visibility alongside an agent-experience layer

Not evaluated here beyond the source-supported comparison context.

Eli

Measurement fit: Saved answer evidence connected to website and downstream evidence tiers

Current public product pages describe the supported evidence loop; no single AI-revenue metric is claimed.

05 / SAMPLING CONFIDENCE

How much data is enough?

One observation

Directional only

Useful for examining an individual answer; not a stable category conclusion.

Repeated prompt set

Executive monitoring

A narrow commercial set can reveal useful movement when the same definitions and raw answers are retained.

Repeated paraphrases × engines

Category benchmarking

Requires broader sampling and transparent methodology.

Before and after controls

Causal conclusion

Cannot be inferred from one screenshot or a single answer.

06 / ELI EVIDENCE TIERS

Keep the evidence types separate.

  1. AI-answer evidence
  2. Referral evidence
  3. Website evidence
  4. Buyer-reported evidence
  5. CRM-confirmed evidence

These records can form one auditable journey. They should never be collapsed into one “AI revenue” metric.

07 / MONITORING SET

Measure the buyer demand you actually care about.

Build a prompt set around commercial weighting, not 100 random prompts.
